Vito Carrozzo is a Director of VSP Search, an executive search practice specialising in the real estate and construction industries.
In a career spanning ten years between 1988 and 1998 with Lend Lease Corporation, Vito held executive positions in investment products marketing, retail property management and development, corporate sponsorship and business process re-engineering.
After Lend Lease, Vito worked with Franklin Covey – a leading global provider of leadership development and organisational effectiveness services based on “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” literature. With this group, he assisted both individuals and organizations in identifying and implementing customized leadership development processes.
Vito holds a Bachelor of Business degree from the University of Technology, Sydney, a Graduate Diploma from the Securities Institute of Australia and an Executive MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management.

Paul Clitheroe is a director of ipac securities, a company he helped found in 1983. ipac now manages over $8 billion dollars for clients.
Paul was host of the Channel 9 Money program since it’s inception in 1993 and continues to present Money stories on A Current Affair. He is also chief commentator of “Money” magazine.
In February 2004 the Federal Government appointed Paul as Chairman of the Consumer and Financial Literacy Taskforce. This Taskforce is to establish a national strategy to improve the financial skills of all Australians and will present its findings and recommendations to parliament in August this year.
Paul is Australia’s leading media commentator on financial issues and is renowned for his ability to explain complex money issues in plain English. His books have sold over 600,000 copies. Paul is also a regular radio commentator and writes weekly newspaper columns.
Since the sale of ipac in late 2002, while continuing his business and media activities, Paul and his wife Vicki have decided to focus on supporting a number of charities, in areas of children’s health, medical research and the arts.
To fund this support, Paul and his family have established a Charitable Foundation. Paul’s personal earnings go to this Foundation.

Mr Mark Compton is Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of SciGen Limited, an international biotechnology company with its principal business in biopharmaceuticals. The company is incorporated in Singapore and trades as a publicly listed company on the Australian Stock Exchange. SciGen’s main markets are in South-East Asia with staff or partners in Australia, Singapore, Korea, Philippines, Vietnam, Hong Kong, India et al. Business partners are also in the US, Poland, Switzerland and Israel.
Prior to his appointment as CEO of SciGen, Mark was Managing Director of Alpha Healthcare Limited. Alpha Healthcare was a publicly listed Australian healthcare group with operations spanning nine private hospitals. Alpha employed in the order of 1,500 staff and had annual revenues of approximately AUD$100M. A major competitor of Alpha (Ramsay Healthcare Limited) launched a successful takeover bid for Alpha in mid-2001.
Mark joined Alpha in 1994. He began his career with Alpha as CEO at Hunters Hill Private Hospital. He was then promoted to Regional Chief Executive Officer in 1997 and then, General Manager – Pathology Division. In January 1999, he was again promoted to Acting General Manager – Hospitals and then Chief Operating Officer. He was appointed Managing Director on 5th July 1999.
Mark is a graduate in pharmacology and spent the early part of his career in clinical research, postgraduate study and teaching at the University of Sydney. His particular area of interest in this regard is in respiratory pharmacology, especially asthma. He also has a special interest in the treatment of poisoning and spent seven years consulting with the Poisons Information Centre at The Children’s Hospital, Sydney. Mark was a visiting lecturer at the New South Wales Ambulance Service Education Centre where he regularly taught paramedics and other ambulance officers on topics such as pharmacology, poising and respiratory disease.
Mark holds a Masters in Business Administration (Executive) from the Australian Graduate School of Management (UNSW). He maintains an active link with the AGSM participating in committee activities and presenting at various student programs in the School.
Mark’s other main interest is St John Ambulance Australia, where he is a Director on the NSW Board and recently retired as State Chairman after a six year term. Mark will re-join the national board of St John as a Director early in 2005. He is also a Governor on the Board of the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research. He was the former Chairman of the Private Hospitals Association of NSW. In addition, Mark is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, Associate Fellow of the Australian College of Health Service Executives and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. |

Geoff Eagleson is a Professor of Management at the Australian Graduate School of Management. He has a PhD in Mathematical Statistics and has taught at the universities of Sydney and Cambridge. He was Assistant Chief of the Division of Mathematics and Statistics at the CSIRO before joining the AGSM. At the AGSM Geoff teaches strategy implementation. His research interests include the development of business models to facilitate the design of change programs and the study of the effect of leadership behaviour on the successful implementation of change. Geoff has extensive experience advising and helping organisations in implementing strategic change programs in the electronics, banking, insurance, printing and hospitality industries. |

Karen joined the Business Council of Australia in 1999.
Before joining the Council Karen was head of the Minerals Council of Australia environment section, a position that was at the forefront of environmental policy for the minerals industry. Through her past experience in the private sector, government and academia Karen has dealt with all facets of the national sustainable development agenda.
Karen is a senior policy specialist and advisor on sustainable development.
Karen obtained an Honours degree in Environmental Science at Murdoch University in 1992 and went on to further research and academic teaching in environmental policy and law, specialising in international law and strategic assessment. |

Michael Hawker has more than 20 years experience in the financial services industry. Before joining Insurance Australia Group Limited as Chief Executive Officer in 2001, Michael was Group Executive, Business and Consumer Banking at Westpac Banking Corporation. Previous positions include Executive Director of Citibank International PLC in Europe and Deputy Managing Director of Citibank Limited in Australia.
Michael was listed by Euromoney as one of the Top 50 Bankers under the age of 40; awarded the 2003 Insurance Industry Accolade’s Best Insurance Executive; and, in 2000, he was awarded the Australian Banking & Finance Magazine - Millennium Banker of the Year Award.
Michael is a member of the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) Board, a Senior Associate member of the Australasian Institute of Banking & Finance, a Director for the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a member of the Federal Treasury’s Consumer and Financial Literacy Taskforce, and is Chair of the New South Wales Juvenile Diabetes ‘Walk to Cure’ annual fundraising event and the Giant Steps Foundation. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Sydney and had a distinguished sporting career as a member of the Australian Rugby Union Team (the Wallabies). He is the recipient of an Australian Sports Medal.

Regina Hill is an independent consultant working in the commercial and not for profit sectors (Regina Hill Effective Consulting Pty Ltd). She has had over four years experience working with AT Kearney, a leading global management consulting firm.
Regina specialises in working with top 100 companies, start up enterprises and not for profit organisations to develop practical commercial strategies and build the capabilities, systems and processes required to operationalise those strategies.
She has significant experience working in the not for profit sector and is currently the Chairperson of the Women’s Circus (a community arts organisation working with survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, older woman and women with a non-English speaking background) and a board member of Victoria Relief (a food bank and emergency aid organisation servicing rural and metropolitan Victoria).
Her hands on experience in the not for profit sector means that she understands the resourcing and prioritisation challenges facing many not for profit organisations seeking to deliver a range of programs with limited funds, and the importance of the relationship that not for profit organisations have with the commercial and philanthropic sectors.

Katie Lahey took up the position as Chief Executive of the Business Council of Australia in September 2001.
The Business Council of Australia is an association of Chief Executives of the top 100 companies. The Council was established in 1983 to provide a forum for Australia’s business leadership to contribute directly to public policy debates in order to build a better and more prosperous Australia. The vision of the BCA is to make Australia the best place in the world to live, learn, work and do business.
Before joining the BCA, Ms Lahey served five years as the Chief Executive of the State Chamber of Commerce (New South Wales), during which time the organisation went through dynamic change and growth. Ms Lahey significantly raised the profile of the Chamber and developed a range of new initiatives and services, including the Sydney 2000 Olympics Commerce Centre and the launch of the Chamber’s on-line strategy.
Ms Lahey moved to the Chamber after three years as Chief Executive of the Sydney City Council. At the Sydney City Council, she succeeded in turning a $22.5 million deficit into a $14 million surplus, and she developed and implemented policies to increase residential, retail and cultural activity in the Central Business District and to prepare the city to bid for the Olympic Games.
As Chairman and Chief Executive of the Victorian Tourism Commission from 1989 to 1992, Ms Lahey restructured the organisation and developed a range of successful domestic and international marketing campaigns.
She has also held a range of senior management positions in the Victorian Public Service, including Deputy Director General of the Department of Property and Services.
Ms Lahey is a Director of David Jones Limited, the Major Performing Arts Board and is a former Director of Australia Post, Hills Motorway Limited and the Garvan Research Foundation. She has a Bachelor of Arts (1st Class Hons) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Melbourne University. She was awarded the prize for top student in the MBA for her year. |

Filomena Leonardi is a Partner at the Sydney office of Heidrick and Struggles. She is the Practice Managing Partner for the Life Sciences Practice and the leading consultant of the Heidrick & Struggles Leadership Services practice in Asia Pacific. She has led assignments for companies in healthcare, technology services and financial services sectors. Filomena has experience in working with small, emergent companies as well as with multinational organisations, and has led cross border assignments.
Filomena has over 10 years’ experience in consulting to several industries in Australia and internationally. Prior to joining Heidrick and Struggles, Filomena had an extensive career in consulting with IBM and later Bain & Co in three major areas: information management, strategy and change management. She has worked with clients in the US/Canada, Europe and Asia, where she has led and facilitated several projects in the financial services and industrial/manufacturing sectors.

Rob McLean is Dean and Director of the AGSM, ranked #1 by the Financial Times as Australia’s leading business school and equal #1 in Asia.
Prior to his appointment he served as a company director on the boards of CSR Ltd and Pacific Dunlop (now Ansell) and as a private equity investor.
Rob retired from McKinsey and Company in 1997 where he had a 25 year career. He led the Australia and New Zealand practice of the Firm from 1989-1997. He served as Chairman of the Asia Pacific Council, as a member of the Firm’s Director Committee, and as an advisor to the McKinsey Global Institute. He currently serves as a member of the global McKinsey Advisory Council.
Rob has had wide international business experience in his career. At McKinsey he specialised in corporate strategy, finance and organisational performance. He served global corporations such as IBM and GE on strategic issues. In the Asia region he served Nissan, Sembawang and Fraser and Neave. He consulted to many of Australia’s pre-eminent companies such as BHP, AMP, Westpac, Optus (now Singtel), Cochlear and CSIRO.
Rob has had experience in industry policy development, leading an assessment for the McKinsey Global Institute on Australia’s economic performance, contributing to the Federal Government’s initiatives to accelerate export growth and regional development. He served as a member of the Trade Advisory Council to the Minister for Trade for several years.
At McKinsey, Rob’s practice contributions were in the areas of strategy and finance where he contributed to the McKinsey Quarterly and was a frequent speaker on strategy. He co-authored the article ‘Staircases to Growth’ (McKinsey Quarterly, 1996, No. 4). He co-authored a leading article on strategy metrics ‘What Is the Market Telling You About Your Strategy’ (McKinsey Quarterly, 1999, No. 3), reprinted in the McKinsey Quarterly Anthropology, ‘On Strategy’, June 2000.
He received an MBA from Columbia University Graduate School of Business in 1969, where he was a Fulbright Hays Scholar. He was awarded the degree of Bachelor of Economic Statistics with First Class Honours from the University of New England in Australia in 1967.
Rob plays a number of community roles in Australia. He is chairman of Social Ventures Australia, a director of the Centre for Independent Studies, a trustee of the Nature Conservancy (Australia) and a member of the Fulbright Advisory Committee.
He lives in Sydney, Australia where he is married to Paula. His interests include running, tennis, Australian football and adventure travel. |

Christopher Messina is a Venture Partner with a Silicon Valley VC firm,
Advance Ventures, and a strategic business development consultant advising
firms in the telecommunications, biomedical, manufacturing and I.T.
industries. A native New Yorker, he began his career in industrial sales in
Africa and Europe. Prior to becoming an independent investor, Christopher
worked for Goldman Sachs and then McKinsey & Co., specializing in risk
management, global electronic trading, clearing & settlement systems and
private equity.
He has a bachelors degree in anthropology from the University of Chicago, is
a member of the New York chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth and
selected the Australasian region as the most intelligent place to take a
business-focused academic sabbatical at the beginning of the 21st century. |

Andrew Mohl was appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of AMP Ltd in October 2002.
AMP is an icon brand in Australia and New Zealand with over 3 million customers, assets under management of A$70 billion, and is one of Australia’s top twenty companies by market capitalisation.
Andrew joined AMP in 1996 and his previous roles included:

Born and educated in Melbourne, Andrew holds a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) degree from Monash University.

David Morrison is a senior lecturer in law and fellow, Centre for Public,
International and Comparative Law, TC Beirne School of Law, Faculty of
Business Economics and Law, The University of Queensland. David has a PhD in Law from The University of Queensland and researches in the fields of
Revenue Law and Corporations Law, particularly the economic analysis of
insolvency law.
He was the foundation director of the Australian Centre for Commerce and Taxation and currently serves on the Queensland board of the Taxation Institute of Australia.
He is a co-author of Crutchfield's Voluntary Administration and his award-winning book, Taxation Law in Principle, is in its second edition. |

Sharon Parker is a Professor at the AGSM. She is an internationally recognised expert in the field of work design, organizational change, and employee development. She has published 5 books, over thirty internationally refereed journal articles (including publications in top tier journals such as the Journal of Applied Psychology and Academy of Management Journal), 20-plus book chapters, numerous articles in practitioner outlets, and more than 60 technical reports. Professor Parker is a member of editorial boards for prestigious journals (e.g., Journal of Applied Psychology, Human Relations) and is the Organizational Behavior Editor for the Australian Journal of Management. She is regularly invited to speak at major international conferences. She has obtained funding for, and successfully led, research grants worth collectively over $AUS 2,000,000. Professor Parker has 15 years experience working as a consultant and researcher in a range of private and public organizations, such as Caterpillar, British Petroleum, Westpac, UK Health & Safety Executive, Department of Defence, and UK Police departments. Consulting topics include work & organisation design, downsizing, organisational change, bullying & harassment, work stress, job performance, employee morale, and related topics. Consulting activities include diagnosis of organisational problems using multi-method approaches (surveys, interviews, linkage research), strategic advice, systematic evaluation of change outcomes, auditing, and expert witness work. Professor Parker is Academic Director of the AGSM’s Graduate Certificate in Change Management. |

Bernard Salt is Partner Property KPMG Australia based in Melbourne. Bernard holds Bachelor of Education and Master of Arts degrees and is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Bernard has established an enviable reputation as an advisor to leading property investors and developers on matters relating to market demand. Bernard’s client list reads like a Who’s Who of Australian business: AMP Capital Investors, Macquarie Bank, Gandel Group, Australand, Delfin, Consolidated Properties, Sunland, MAB Corporation, VicUrban and others.
Bernard is however best known to Australian business for his commentary in the media on the business implications of demographic and social change. He is a columnist with The Australian, MELBOURNE magazine and Property Australia and is the author of the popular best-selling book The Big Shift: Welcome to the Third Australian Culture.

As President of Flight Centre North America, Andrea Slingsby oversees all aspects of the company’s operations while strategically driving business change and development to further grow profits in this region.
A veteran Flight Centre team member, Australian born and raised Slingsby brings more than 10 years corporate Flight Centre experience to her role, having worked in numerous managerial and executive capacities for the global travel agency’s Australian, US and Canadian operations.
Prior to taking on the position of President, Slingsby was the company’s Global Human Resources Manager overseeing the strategic development of all staff in seven countries. In that role, she was responsible for driving significant innovative organizational change through the creation of fully-corporatised internal HR business units, which operate on an externally viable commercial basis within the company. This model drove significant bottom-line and incentive benefits throughout the organization and was successfully rolled out to all other support areas within the company including finance, marketing and IT.
As Global HR Manager, Slingsby was also responsible for overhauling and redeveloping the recruitment system within Flight Centre Limited. As a result, the key issue of staff shortages worldwide were addressed and significantly reduced within 6 months resulting in a proactive company recruitment system with pre-processed staff “on-ice” prepared and waiting for upcoming opportunities.
Currently, Flight Centre North America has over 150 retail shops and corporate businesses with over 650 staff operating in Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, Halifax, Ottawa, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver and Victoria. They are currently the 5th largest travel group in Canada by turnover and the 7th largest travel group in the Los Angeles area. It is part of the global Flight Centre Limited Group, which has over 1500 businesses in 8 countries with a turnover last year of over AUD $6b. |

Deborah Smithers is a lawyer by background having been a partner in two national law firms prior to joining KPMG in 1999 to establish the governance practice in the Sydney office. She now leads the Board Advisory Services Practice nationally.
The Practice works with board members at both a collective and individual level, providing a range of tailored services including board appraisals, training and advice to a range of organisations – from major listed entities through to government and not-for-profit organisations. The Practice focuses on both the performance and conformance aspects of the governance of those organisations. |

He was nominated by Prof Jeremy Davis for the UNSW's Alumni Award for his involvement in the community campaign to stop the Franklin River dam in Tasmania.

Helen Trinca has been a working journalist over three decades, spending
many years at The Australian before joining the Sydney Morning Herald in
1997. She covered the new world of work for the Herald and then moved to The Australian Financial Review to set up BOSS - a magazine dedicated to work, management and leadership.
She and Catherine Fox, who is deputy editor at the magazine, co-authored Better than Sex: How a Whole Generation got Hooked on Work because their day jobs showed them just how much work was shifting - and how quickly. Helen was also co-author, with Anne Davies of the definitive history of the 1998 docks dispute - Waterfront: The battle that changed Australia published by Random House in 2000. |

Lucy Turnbull (LLB (Syd) MBA [UNSW]) has lived and worked in Sydney all her life. She has practised as a solicitor and also worked in investment banking with Turnbull and Partners Pty Limited.
In 1999 she published a book called Sydney – Biography of a City which explored Sydney’s history and the development of the city to the present day.
From 1999 to 2004 Lucy was a Councillor on the City of Sydney Council.
From 2003 to 2004 Lucy was the City of Sydney’s first female Lord Mayor and from 1999-2003 she was Deputy Lord Mayor. She was the first woman to hold both these positions.
She was a member of the Central Sydney Planning Committee, (CSPC) and chaired the CSPC during her term as Lord Mayor. She also chaired the Planning, Transport and Development Committee and the Traffic Committee, and was the Deputy Chair, and later the Chair of the Council’s Finance and Audit Committees.
Lucy is a non executive director of FTR Limited, a listed technology company which owns WebCentral, Australia’s largest managed internet hosting and solutions company, and is the market leader in the supply of digital recording solutions for the courtroom and hearing room market, installed in over 10,000 hearing rooms, mostly in North America.
Non Profit Activities
Lucy is a member of the board of the Museum of Contemporary Art and is Deputy Chair of the Committee for Sydney. She is a Director of the Sydney Cancer Foundation which supports cancer services at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Concord hospitals, Australia’s largest cancer treatment centre . For many years she served as President of the Sydney Children's Hospital Foundation. She and her husband Malcolm have established the Turnbull Foundation, a charitable trust.
From 2001 to 2003 she has chaired the NSW Ministerial Advisory Council on Biotechnology, which assisted the government in developing its BioFirst strategy, launched in August 2001.
Lucy’s interests are urban planning and design, innovation and enterprise, contemporary culture, history and politics. She married Malcolm in 1980 and they have two children, Alex (b. 1982) and Daisy (b. 1985). |

Robert Wood is Professor of Management at the Australian Graduate School of Management. Prior appointments include Deputy Vice Chancellor at the University of Western Australia and visiting Professor at the Kellogg School, Northwestern University. He completed his PhD in organizational behavior at the University of Washington (Seattle) and did post doctoral studies at Stanford University Psychology Department. He is Editor Applied Psychology and International Review. He was awarded the AGSM Alumni Outstanding Teacher Award (1998) and the inaugural AGSM Award for Excellence in Research (2002). He was recently named a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management.
Robert has designed, developed and delivered programs for senior managers in many Australian and overseas corporations, including Telstra, P&O Ports and the Hong Kong Government. He has developed and delivered a range of executive programs and seminars in the USA, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and Hong Kong. He was Consultant to OECD (Paris) from 1990 to 1996. During that period he conducted several multi-national studies of pay schemes and performance appraisal practices for managers in Europe, the USA, Japan and Australia.
Robert has served on the Board of Royal Perth Hospital and University of Western Australia Senate. He currently sits on the Boards of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management, the International Association of Applied Psychologists and the Australian Graduate School of Management. He is an advisor to Cameron Ralph a company that conducts evaluations of company boards and he participated in the design of the company’s evaluation methodology. |

Mr Samuel is Chairman of the Australian Competition & Consumer
Commission. Mr Samuel’s professional career commenced as a Partner of the law firm Phillips Fox & Masel from 1972 to 1980. He then became Executive Director of Hill Samuel Australia Limited and subsequently Macquarie Bank Limited from 1981 to 1986 and co-founder of Grant Samuel & Associates in 1988.
Mr Samuel has held the following public offices (many of which he
relinquished to assume his position with the ACCC):
President of the National Competition Council (1997-2003); Commissioner of the Australian Football League (1984-2003); Chairman of Opera Australia (1995-2000); President of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (1995–97); Chairman of the Melbourne & Olympic Parks Trust (1995-2003); Member of the Board of the Docklands Authority (1997- 2003); Director of Thakral Holdings Limited (1993-2003); Chairman of Playbox Theatre Company (1983-1995); Trustee of the Melbourne Cricket Ground Trust (1992-1998); Chairman of the Inner & Eastern Health Care Network (1995-2000).
Mr Samuel holds the following degrees and awards:
Bachelor of Laws (Melbourne University); Master of Laws (Monash University); Life Member of the Australian Football League (1995); Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia (1998); Australian Sports Medal, for services to sport (2000); Honorary Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (2000); Centenary Medal in recognition of his service as President of the National Competition Council (2003); Honorary Life Trustee of the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA) (2003).
