Hon Gareth Evans AO, QC
November 2001
The Honourable Gareth Evans AO QC, former Foreign Minister in the Keating Ministry, visited the AGSM and addressed faculty and students on 19th November 2001.
Mr Evans in his position of President of the International Crisis Group in Brussels spoke on his role with the ICG, the impact of the 11 September terrorist attack on the world and his perspective on international crisis management. He reminded staff of the negative effects of the 11 September tragedy, but also identified positive developments. He pointed to an increase in international co-operation, a move from a unilateral to multilateral approach in US policy, a tempering of conspicuous consumption and a shift to deeper values in the West, and a renewed focus on the value of education.
