Professor Roger Collins awarded the title of Emeritus Professor

04 July 2007

Professor Roger Collins from Organisation and Management at the Australian School of Business™ has been awarded the title of Emeritus Professor in recognition of his exceptional contribution to AGSM and UNSW during the last three decades.

Roger’s teaching, research and writing have been directed at practitioners and, as a consequence, he is very well known in the business community, bringing significant reputational benefits to AGSM and UNSW.

Roger’s teaching gifts are legendary and his many students, both MBA’s and participants in Executive Programs, vouch for the impact he has had on them as managers. Roger received both the AGSM Alumni Teaching Award (twice) and the UNSW Vice Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence.

Roger made an outstanding contribution to AGSM over a period of 25 years. He championed and launched the innovative MBA (Executive) program and was Foundation Director of the MBA (Executive) from 1989 to 1995. Under Roger’s guidance, enrolments grew from 95 to 1750 students and the Program’s delivery was extended to Perth, Adelaide, Canberra and Brisbane.

Roger developed a unique Alumni Mentor Program that organises recent MBA (Executive) graduates to mentor either individual students or learning syndicates as they proceed through the program, providing developmental benefits to both the students and their mentors.

Roger also created and was the Founding Director of the Accelerated Development Program that generates a career boost for high potential young managers.

Roger’s outstanding contribution to human resource management has been recognised in many ways. For example, he chairs the judging panels for the Best Employers’ Award in both Australia and New Zealand, and also 21 Asian countries. In 2005 he was awarded the Order of Australia (General Division) for services to management education, and he received the Australian Human Resource award for career long contribution to the HR profession, the body of knowledge and Australian HR practice.
