Bouris to weave Wizard magic over AGSM Lifelong Learning Event
17 August 2007
The remarkable franchising success story of Australian School of Business alumnus, Wizard Home Loans founder and chairman Mark Bouris will be the focus of an AGSM Lifelong Learning Event in August.
Mr Bouris and Professor Andrew Terry, Head of Business Law and Taxation at the Australian School of Business, will explain methods of creating a successful global franchising business.
Mr Bouris, an adjunct Professor at UNSW, created Wizard in 1996 and built it into one of Australia’s largest mortgage providers, competing heavily with banks and other lending institutions.
Mr Bouris sold Wizard Home Loans in 2004 but remains as its non-executive chairman.
Recently Wizard embraced a franchise model in place of its original licencing model and has expanded internationally.
Professor Terry, Governor of the Franchise Academy and former director of the Franchise Council of Australia, is recognised as one of the world’s foremost authorities on franchising. He has been awarded the Franchising Council of Australia’s special award for his ‘Outstanding Contribution to Franchising’ and has been inducted into the Australian Franchise Hall of Fame.
Professor Terry will provide attendees with a global perspective on franchising, and Mr Bouris will relate Professor Terry’s presentation to the case of Wizard Home Loans.
“The Wizard story is fascinating, from its initial establishment to the systematic and strategic moves Mark Bouris made to achieve the sale and backing of GE Money. The story continues with Wizard’s overseas expansion after its transition to a franchise model,” Professor Terry said.
“The evening will provide a rich source of information about franchising.”
