Business building as an art form

11 July 2007

Alumni from the world’s top business schools and universities will gather to hear a prominent Australian philanthropist discuss the art of building a successful business, at an AGSM MBA mixer event to be held in July.

Alumni from AGSM, London Business School, Columbia, Wharton, Warwick, Richard Ivey, INSEAD, Kellogg School of Management, Stanford University and Veritas University will participate in the event, along with alumni from other business schools.

Chris Cuffe, executive director of Social Ventures Australia, a non-profit organisation that invests in innovative methods of social change, will use his experience as former chief executive of Colonial First State to discuss ways of developing profitable and thriving businesses.

Magda Walczak, President of AGSM’s Sydney alumni branch, said the 2007 MBA mixer event promised to be the biggest yet.

“The mixer is an important keystone in the alumni calendar each year - it really opens up everyone’s networks to include alumni from other prestigious business schools.

“Opportunities to meet people outside your regular alumni circle are rare, and extremely important. Most alumni events centralise around a particular topic, defining its audience because they are attracted to that topic.

“The MBA mixer has a more universal appeal, and we can be certain of a rich diversity of attendees.

“We’re hoping that the success of the Sydney multi-school MBA mixer will inspire AGSM alumni branches in other cities around Australia to host their own local versions of the event.”
