AGSM to return to sole ownership by UNSW
14 November 2005
The University of New South Wales and the University of Sydney, currently partners in the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM), have agreed to end the joint venture, leaving open opportunities for further collaboration. AGSM will revert to being wholly owned by UNSW.
UNSW Vice-Chancellor Professor Mark Wainwright, said: “The partnership has served both universities and AGSM well. Over the time of the agreement, AGSM has continued to grow into a world-class business school, with obvious benefits to management education in this country and to both partner institutions.
“However it is now timely for AGSM to pursue new opportunities within a less formal arrangement. AGSM and the University of Sydney will continue to collaborate on joint initiatives.”
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sydney Professor Gavin Brown, said: “This is a most amicable arrangement, in the best interests of all parties.
“The University of Sydney intends to develop further co-operative arrangements with AGSM. We look forward to continuing our close collaboration into the future.”
Professor Wainwright said the return to 100 per cent ownership will allow UNSW to further strengthen its links with AGSM.
“In particular we will continue to build on the already close relationship between AGSM and UNSW’s Faculty of Commerce and Economics, which has an outstanding reputation in the Asia-Pacific region for undergraduate business education and specialist masters degrees,” he said.
AGSM, established in 1977, was wholly owned by UNSW for 22 years. The joint venture with the University of Sydney commenced in 1999.
Students currently enrolled at AGSM will continue to receive jointly badged degrees.
