Corporate Strategy
Corporate Strategy is a second-year MBA strategic management course aimed at providing the student with the theoretical background of strategic thinking as well as an integrated view of the functional business disciplines. The course is a mixture of readings and cases and is integrated around the Essence of Corporate Strategy text. Although I haven't taught this course in its entirety in several years, the current course, along with a related course in the Executive MBA program, is similarly structured and uses the same basic materials. The materials below are those I have used for overseas EMBA programs for other universities.
International Business in Asia (2 Week Study Tour in China)
IBA is a second-year MBA international management course aimed at providing the student with direct experience about managing and investing in Asia. The first course included a study tour of China. The course is a mixture of readings, projects and meetings and included two weeks in Shanghai, Beijing and Tianjin. Some materials are open access. Others are restricted to those who either are in the course currently or have been involved in the past.

International Business Strategy
International Business Strategy is a second-year MBA strategic management course for students who have completed Corporate Strategy. The course is 100% case-based with a host of supplementary readings and supporting lecture notes. It is aimed at providing students with application knowledge that they can add to their already existing mix of skills. The course syllabus provides information on the readings and cases. A series of lecture notes is meant to summarise and synthesis the main body of knowledge in these readings. Summary debriefs of many prior cases are available to students in the course. These summaries are available only after the case is discussed and are password protected. The course is similar to one taught in UCLA and INSEAD and the major text is the casebook by Jose de la Torre (UCLA), Yves Doz (INSEAD) and Timothy Devinney (AGSM), Managing the Global Corporation, published by McGraw-Hill. A list of cases available in this book can be found here.
PhD Seminar on Intellectual Foundations of Social Science
This course is concerned with the nature of social science inquiry. It is intended for students in the business and management disciplines and those early in their masters and doctoral research program. The course is broken into four sections: (1) an introductory overview to the philosophy of science, (2) a review of epistemology – the nature and scope of knowledge − (3) a review of ontology – the what can be said to exist − and (4) specific applications to the major disciplinary areas. Materials include article summaries and presentations.

PhD Seminar in Strategic Management
The Seminar in Strategic Management is a PhD research seminar course aimed at providing doctoral students with a structured approach to strategic thinking and research. The course comprises a list of readings that are meant to encompass the main areas of strategic management research and thinking. The course meets bi-weekly with specific topics and readings for discussion agreed upon using a rolling schedule. The course is changed from term to term with the focus being driven by recent developments, visiting faculty and PhD student and faculty research agendas. The reading lists for the first two seminars can be accessed below.
Managing Competitive Strategy
Managing Competitive Strategy is a two-day executive program. The program is designed for senior executives who have responsibility - either individually or as part of a corporate team - for setting the direction of their business. The program addressess four strategic issues:
  • How are strategies decided and how can an organisation's strategy be improved?
  • How to convert processes to customer value?
  • How can a business achieve a sustainable advantage?
  • How do you manage strategic change?

The Managing Competitive Strategy has not been conducted for some time. Click here for an outline of the program and some lecture notes.

Open Lectures and Seminars
This section contains a series of lectures given in various venues in the past. Some are pure executive seminars and overlap a bit. Others are more specific short talks given to business groups. This section is constantly being updated as I develop more lecture material and get around to restructuring existing lecture material. Some materials may seem very old (up to 10 years). I do this mainly to maintain the proprietary aspect of these lectures. My current lectures are based on these and you can request more recent materials fromme. Some additional materials are available on my presentations page as well.
