Tim Boyd

Profile summary
After graduating from Cambridge in Science, and a short stint as a research chemist for the British Government, Tim became an operating systems writer in 1968, first for English Electric and then for ICL. He moved to Australia with ICL as a support specialist in 1975, and took charge of support groups in Canberra and then Brisbane. He became a salesman in 1982, and went to Sydney to be National Marketing Manager for database, 4GL, decision support and expert systems in 1984. Later he headed mainframe marketing.

Tim returned to Brisbane in 1986, as General Manager of an Australian start-up company formed to develop and market a new relational database product. After that company was bought out in 1988, he returned to ICL as a marketing manager, and later rejoined the sales force. ICL was taken over by Fujitsu in 1992. In July 1995 he became an IT consultant with his own company, joining CTG Consulting as a Principal in 1998.

Since then he has carried out many consulting assignments, principally within the State Government and its agencies. Tim has also taken extended roles as an IT architect, as a strategy and planning manager, as a projects manager at the intersection of engineering, GIS and software development and as an infrastructure program director.

His thirty-seven years of IT experience covers the range from deep technical roles (writing operating systems, sizing database systems) via first level supervision of teams, project and program management to managerial and strategic functions (sales, national marketing manager, General Manager of a high-tech start-up company, consultant to senior management). For two years he was the Queensland Chair of the AIIA (the peak industry body for information industries in this country).
