David Baxter


Profile summary
In his 30 years of working life, David has occupied positions in the public and private sectors including the law enforcement, plastics, financial services, education and consulting industries.

Moving to Australia from Northern Ireland in 1980, David took on a variety of roles in Melbourne before joining the Transport Accident Commission of Victoria in 1986. Whilst at the TAC, he occupied four divisional management positions in seven years through three organisational restructures and a privatisation review by the Victorian government. He led significant change and improved performance in the organisation, using various techniques, including the use of multiple service improvement teams. Moving back into the private sector, David occupied the position of National Claims Services Manager for AXA Australia from 1998 through 1999 before his appointment as an Adjunct Teaching Fellow at the Australian Graduate School of Entrepreneurship in Melbourne.

David has been involved in teaching since 1997. He has taught at a Masters level in Innovative Leadership, Strategy Implementation, Strategic Intent in Corporate Strategy and the Integrating Project at institutions including the Australian Graduate School of Entrepreneurship, RMIT, University of Western Sydney, Monash University, and the Australian Institute of Management. During the past four years David has supervised 10 research projects at Masters level, including the Australian Graduate School of Entrepreneurship 1st prize winning project in 2004.

David is married and has four children. His interests include playing and listening to music, reading, walking, and watching sports.

Qualifications
He was awarded his PhD by Swinburne University of Technology in 2005. His thesis investigated the relationship between organisational politics and innovation within an Australian IT firm. He was awarded his MBA by Monash University, in 1997.
