Kim Barkel
Profile summary
Kim has been an instructor with AGSM Programs since 2003, instructing Managing People & Organisations and Managerial Skills. He has completed multiple qualifications in adult education the most recent of which was a Master of Educational Administration at UNSW. He was awarded Fellowship of the Australian Institute of Training & Development in August 2000.
Kim has held many senior management and consulting roles in both the private and public sector. These included the senior corporate learning and organisational development roles at AGC and Westpac, membership of their respective group HR management teams and represented each on various industry panels. He left the Westpac Group to establish a private partnership, Learning & Performance People (LAPP), a learning and organisational development consultancy working with a range of organisations notably many major financial services corporations but also in other industries in Australia and New Zealand. As a partner Kim was a principal consultant working with clients in addition to developing the team of associates and a number of strategic alliances. Consulting work provided Kim the variety of opportunities to contribute strategy as well as hands on development and delivery. Assignments included initiatives in culture, compliance, technology and performance improvement.
Kim returned to a corporate role in Organisational Development with RailCorp designing and developing a number of leadership, management and strategic capability initiatives.
An interest in improving training development and delivery within AGC led to Kim to establishing one of the first major corporate intranets and subsequent involvement in establishing internet and extranets. He was eLearning champion at Westpac, then the largest eLearning offering in the Southern Hemisphere, and was one of the earliest initiators of eLearning and knowledge management. This interest in online learning and blending solutions has continued at RailCorp.
Kim is married to Helen and they have 3 children and live on the Central Coast. The son of a former world champion golfer, Kim’s own golfing prowess has inspired a desperate hope his father’s genes will at least emerge in his children!
