Arnaud de Baecque recently received the 2007 AGSM Alumni Association BA and Executive Year Scholarship. The award recognises him as a highly talented MBA student who has demonstrated social responsibility and leadership.

“The vision I have of my life includes social responsibility as a necessary component,” Mr de Baecque said. “I consider three pillars to be essential in the pursuit of happiness: a recognisable professional life, a rich personal life and a deep involvement with charities.”

Mr de Baecque had extensive involvement in not-for-profit organisations since his university days in Paris.

He was involved in the Genepi, a French student association providing prisoners in jail with learning opportunities.

He endeavoured to build a link between people in jail with the wider society by organising students to come on a weekly basis to help prisoners prepare for exams on diplomatic skills.

More recently, he was involved as a volunteer Guide Lecturer in Emile Zola’s famous French writer’s house near Paris, and as an active member of ADKB - a small charity providing education opportunities for young children in Burkina Faso.

Mr de Baecque worked in the legal field for Gaz de France Group, a French historical integrated gas company, for the past ten years. His last position was Head of Legal Affairs and Member of the Board of GRTgaz, the subsidiary in charge of the French gas transmission grid in Paris since 2004.

Last year, he enrolled in AGSM’s MBA program to broaden his career path.

“I came to Australia because I want to be more internationalised,” Mr de Baecque said. “I decided to be in AGSM’s MBA program to open myself to more overseas working opportunities, besides the ones in the legal field’.

Mr de Baecque chose AGSM because of its location in Sydney and reputation as Australia’s pre-eminent business school.

“AGSM’s MBA program provides not only knowledge but also a rich community life. The students get to know each other very well from Orientation Week, intensive team work, weekend activities, and student clubs.”

“The study method is based on collaborations and interactions. As such we learn technical knowledge, as well as networking and business skills.”

“After graduating I would like to pursue a career in general management positions,” Mr de Baecque said.
