HK Branch: Development of Chinese Medicine in Hong Kong and Management of Related Enterprises

There is an increasing acceptance of traditional and alternative medicine by the global community for health promotion and treatment of illnesses. As a cultural heritage with a long history of use, Chinese medicine presents an area which embraces both business and research and development opportunities. In this presentation, Dr Lee will introduce the status of development of the “Chinese Medicine Hong Kong” and highlight the challenges facing the modernisation of Chinese medicine and management of related enterprises.

Following Dr Lee’s presentation a tour of Hong Kong Science and Technology Park will be conducted from 4.00 - 5.30 pm focusing on the areas of logistics and I.T. industries.


About the Speaker

Dr Edmund Lee received his doctorate degree in microbiology from King's College, University of London, master's degree in Business Administration from the Warwick Business School and a Postgraduate Certificate in Chinese Medicine from University of Hong Kong. He has also completed the Directors College Executive Program in Law, Economy and Business (Corporate Governance) of Stanford Law School, Stanford University, USA; the Professional Diploma programme in Corporate Governance and Directorship of the Hong Kong Institute of Directors; and the corporate programme in Leadership and Change of the Business School of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Prior to his appointment as the Executive Director of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Chinese Medicine in October 2001, Dr Lee was the Senior Biotechnology Officer of the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) of the HKSAR Government, and before that he worked in research-based pharmaceutical companies in the UK. Dr Lee is a frequent speaker on biotechnology and Chinese medicine development, and has about 20 years of experience across strategic planning, corporate and resource management, R&D, technology operations and project management gained from the public and private sectors. He is also elected Fellow of business and professional associations.
